Two schools are located on base. Both are on Camp Beale Highway between Gavin Mandery and Garryana Drives. Lone Tree and Far West schools accommodate kindergarten through sixth-grade students. There is no bus service for base residents in the housing areas attending these schools.
The base provides training related to reconnaissance operations.
The base is equipped with the nation's fleet of U-2 and RQ-4 reconnaissance aircraft and associated support equipment. As of the census of 2000, there were 5,115 people, 1,463 households, and 1,357 families residing in the base. The racial makeup of the base was 71.53% White, 10.73% African American, 1.13% Native American, 5.20% Asian, 0.59% Pacific Islander, 5.08% from other races, and 5.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.20% of the population.

The mission has been always on front for the Reconnaissance operations. It was the first base to receive U2 aircrafts for operations.
